This project seeks to create 6 “Intercultural Youth Pannels” (IYP) in the different partner locations. The aim of these pannels would be to discuss the potentials and difficulties of belonging to a culturally diverse community. These groups would have to identify what are the opportunities that cultural diversity present in their areas in the development of a sustainable and inclusive city.
This project is born from a pilot that was developed under the community programme “Promotion of an active European citizenship”. This project was loooking into ways of engaging citizens from 10 cities in a Local Regeneration Forum, where they discussed and tackled problems and issues at the local level regarding urban development of the city, connecting at the same time with the European level through a capacity-building & exchange workshop. These forums highlighted the need to involve young citizens in a more structured dialogue and they identified the issue of cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue, which is an issue high in their local agendas, as well as at the EU level.
The idea is not only to facilitate participation at the local level, but also, to connect horizontally with the panels from the 6 different partner cities, promoting a wider dialogue among european young citizens, enhancing mutual understanding and respecting cultural and linguistic diversity. This will enhance intercultural dialogue and a sense of European identity.
