Migration Learning in European schools — a practical approach
Using methods and materials on the topic of migration as part of intercultural education
*Preparation: * Reflecting on migration issues in your country
*Objectives:*
*Participants will:*
- be able to realize that “Migration learning” is viewed as one approach of analysing the history, links and issues arising from migration
- be introduced to and test methods and material that can be incorporated in teaching in different subjects (social studies, natural sciences, arts, ethical and religion studies) and grades (for pupils age 10-19).
- Use modules on the history of migration, different state policies towards migration, identity constructions of pupils with and without migration background communication, and the situation of Rroma in Europe
- Participate in activities of teaching migration in the classroom
- Understand racism and on the construction of inferior and superior individuals and groups
- self-reflect by critically analysing their own attitudes and the structures of society
- examine intercultural conflicts
*Methodology:*
* The course will include lectures and workshops.
Participants will get opportunities for group work, for self reflection, for testing methods, for discussing with each other and sharing own experiences.
* The introduced methods for migration learning are for the most part “active learning” based methods, i.e. personal story, empirical approaches, questionnaires, interviews, video work, field trips, role play, pedagogical games, document analysis and etc.
